TikTok updated its Generic Catalogue guidance in August 2026. The feature allows service-oriented and non-commerce advertisers to manage itemized offers and use them with Lead Generation or Sales objectives. TikTok lists item name, image, and item ID as required fields. Description, video, landing page, price, location, and custom labels are among the optional fields.
When a website or app event source is connected, the catalogue item IDs need to match the content IDs in the event setup. That requirement has an important B2B implication: a service has to become a stable, verifiable data object across the platform, website, analytics, and sales handoff. A list of broad marketing slogans is not a service catalogue.
One item should describe one understandable offer
“Global marketing service” is too broad for a buyer to evaluate. A more governable item might be a market-validation workshop for a named region, a content asset package for a specific product category, or a website diagnostic with defined inputs and deliverables.
The item name, description, applicable sector, deliverables, timing, region, language, prerequisites, and exclusions should agree. Keep the item ID stable when wording changes without altering the underlying offer. If the scope changes materially, create a new version or item rather than preserving an identifier that now means something different.
Align the item, event, page, and CRM record
The catalogue item ID, pixel or Events API content ID, website service identifier, and CRM source field should be traceable along the same path. If ten distinct items all lead to one generic page, buyers cannot find the offer they selected and the event record becomes difficult to interpret.
Give each service a dedicated canonical page. The page title, primary description, form hidden field, language, and structured information should use the same ID or a documented mapping. A platform item should never point to a missing page, an unrelated language, an obsolete scope, or a form that drops the item identifier.
What this means for Chinese exporters
Manufacturers often provide sampling, customization, installation, training, repair, and spare-parts support in addition to physical goods. Service companies may combine research, creative work, media operations, and delivery on one page. Catalogue structure forces the team to answer which offer a buyer is actually evaluating.
That clarity can improve the website and follow-up path, but complex work should not be presented as a misleading commodity. When a fixed price is not possible, explain the pricing basis, required inputs, exclusions, and point at which a formal quotation can be prepared. The catalogue should reduce ambiguity, not hide it.
Action checklist
- Begin with three to five services whose scope, availability, and ownership are stable.
- Define the name, item ID, deliverables, region, timing, prerequisites, and exclusions for each item.
- Build a dedicated landing page with a self-canonical URL, language, update date, form, and privacy notice.
- Maintain an item ID to content ID to page to CRM field mapping and test every event before launch.
- Use custom labels for sector, region, language, maturity, and availability rather than unsupported performance claims.
- Synchronize catalogue, page, event, and sales material when an offer is paused or revised.
Treat the catalogue as a publishing contract
Before each upload, produce a change set that identifies new, modified, paused, page-changed, and event-changed items. The content owner and data owner should approve the difference, followed by a limited preview and live-page sample. If an item resolves to a 404, wrong language, or mismatched offer, pause that item immediately.
The catalogue is not merely an asset repository. It is a contract between the ad platform, website, event system, and sales process about what the company is offering. Stable IDs, versioned definitions, and a dedicated page make that contract auditable for both systems and buyers.
Add a recurring destination audit after publication. Fetch every active landing page, verify a 200 response, canonical, language, item name, item identifier, and working contact route, then compare the event payload with the catalogue record. Flag redirects that change language or lose the identifier. The sales team should also see the same service name and scope when the record arrives. This end-to-end check detects a technically valid catalogue item that has become commercially inconsistent after a page or form update.
