Google announced on August 27 that AI Mode can track flight prices after user confirmation, including cash prices and options using points or miles, then notify the user when the requested condition appears. The consumer travel example points to a broader B2B interaction. A buyer agent may no longer read a product page once. It may monitor price, availability, lead time, certificates or specification changes over a longer procurement cycle. A supplier website needs to distinguish permission to monitor from permission to perform a commercial action.
Bind monitoring permission to a specific object
“Watch this product” is not precise enough. The authorization should identify the model, configuration, destination market, currency, quantity range, document version or other conditions that determine meaning. If the buyer changes the model or market, the previous monitoring permission should not silently expand.
Give each monitored object a stable identifier linked to the public page and current status. A marketing-name change should not create a second invisible object. A discontinued, replaced or review-required product should create an explicit state rather than disappear from the task.
For complex equipment, the monitored object can include a document set. A buyer may want to know when a manual, compliance declaration or interface specification changes. The subscription should identify the current baseline version so the notification can explain the difference.
Define which changes are notification-worthy
B2B purchasing conditions rarely consist of one public price. Minimum order, lead time, material, certificate scope, document version and market eligibility may influence the decision. Let the buyer choose the fields and trigger: any change, a stated threshold or only a new approved version.
A notification should show the previous value, new value, update time, source and applicable scope. When a condition still requires sales confirmation, label it as review required rather than presenting it as a quotation. A field without a reliable source should not be offered for automated monitoring.
The system also needs a no-change rule. A completed check with no difference is different from a failed check. Do not report that conditions remain unchanged when the source was unavailable or the account lost access.
Set frequency, channel and expiry
A continuous task needs a start date, check frequency, delivery channel and end condition. A project purchase may need thirty days of monitoring, while a framework buyer may need periodic reconfirmation. An inactive subscription should request renewal instead of storing identity and task state indefinitely.
The buyer should be able to view, modify and stop monitoring from an account page, email or prior notification. Changing the channel or expanding the monitored fields requires a new confirmation. Internally, record the service responsible for the check, its last successful run and consecutive failure state.
Avoid unnecessary notification volume. A digest may be better for low-priority document changes, while a threshold event may warrant an immediate message. The buyer chooses the channel; the supplier defines what its source can reliably detect.
Monitoring is not authority to execute
A price decrease, available unit or revised document triggers information. It does not authorize an order, reservation, inquiry or acceptance of terms. A consequential step must show the current object, conditions, responsible entity and explicit human confirmation. The agent can prepare the action but cannot inherit execution authority from the monitoring subscription.
If login, permission or source access fails, mark the task as paused or failed. Do not send a stale cached value as current. Do not interpret an undetected change as evidence that the condition stayed stable.
What this means for Chinese exporters
Long B2B buying cycles are naturally suited to monitoring. A reliable change service for documents, lead times or product status can align a supplier website with the buyer's work rather than forcing repeated manual checks. It requires stable fields, version management and explicit permission.
Chinese exporters can begin with public, low-risk fields such as manual versions and event updates. Price, stock and lead-time monitoring should follow only after the data source and accountable owner are stable, with sales confirmation retained for commercial commitments.
Action checklist
- Define the monitored object by model, configuration, market, currency and document version.
- Let the buyer choose fields, threshold, frequency, channel, expiry and revocation.
- Show old value, new value, source, update time and scope in every alert.
- Separate notifications, inquiries, reservations and orders into different authorization levels.
- Record the last successful check, failure reason and source freshness.
- Launch with document and public-status monitoring before commercial fields.
