In remarks published on July 22, Google said that AI Overviews and AI Mode are becoming a more seamless Search experience and that its AI features are sending billions of clicks to websites each week. This is Google's account of activity across its own products, not a traffic forecast for an individual supplier website.
The useful operating signal is the sequence. A buyer may form an initial understanding inside an AI-generated answer and click only when a specification, limitation, source, or commercial next step requires verification. The supplier page is therefore not beginning a new journey. It is inheriting a question and a partial conclusion from another interface.
Preserve the claim across the click
An answer engine may cite a sentence about material suitability, testing conditions, delivery preparation, or product compatibility. If the visitor lands on a generic brand page that does not expose that information, the handoff fails. The buyer has to reconstruct the path, and the cited source appears less dependable.
An evidence page should make the relevant statement easy to find through a precise heading, concise summary, stable anchor, supporting document, applicable model, update date, and limitation. This is not a reason to repeat a phrase across every paragraph. It is a reason to keep the object of the claim consistent.
For example, if the cited passage says that a material can be used in a particular environment, the page should identify the product configuration, test basis, operating limits, and exceptions. It should not redirect the buyer to an undifferentiated catalog or imply that an industry observation proves the supplier's own capability.
Design the first screen for verification
Visitors arriving from an AI answer often carry a narrower intent than homepage visitors. They may want to confirm who published the information, what evidence supports it, whether it applies to their use case, and what they should inspect next. The first screen can answer those questions with a verifiable summary, author, dates, evidence index, and clearly stated scope.
Internal consistency matters as much as the visible copy. The introduction, body, downloadable specification, Article schema, product database, and sales response should not present competing definitions or numbers. Important facts need an accountable source record and an owner who updates every dependent surface.
The next step should also match the evidence task. A technical buyer may need an input checklist or drawing requirements. A distributor may need packaging, market availability, and minimum-order context. A broad “contact us” prompt makes the buyer decide what information is required and transfers avoidable work back to them.
What this means for Chinese exporters
Many export websites still treat the homepage as the default destination for every channel. AI-led discovery is more likely to expose deep pages that answer a specific question. Suppliers need an evidence architecture organized around buyer decisions: material selection, application boundaries, quality controls, installation preparation, delivery responsibilities, and after-sales ownership.
GEO measurement should reflect this architecture. Brand mentions alone do not show whether a cited statement was accurate or whether the destination helped the buyer verify it. Teams can review the answer wording, destination page, evidence availability, internal next step, and questions later received by sales. They should not attribute an order to an AI answer without reliable evidence.
The controllable asset is continuity. When the cited claim, page content, structured data, and buyer action all describe the same reality, the website becomes easier for both machines and people to use as a source.
Action checklist
1. Collect the twenty verification questions most frequently raised by buyers and assign one stable evidence page to each question. 2. Place a concise conclusion, applicable audience, evidence index, update date, and limitation near the top of every page. 3. Keep visible content, structured data, downloads, product records, and sales guidance aligned to one factual version. 4. Add stable section anchors and at least one same-language internal link to the next relevant evidence page. 5. Review answer-to-page continuity monthly by comparing cited wording with the actual destination content. 6. Replace generic contact prompts with a preparation checklist, parameter form, document request, or technical review path. 7. Record uncertain attribution separately from confirmed website and sales outcomes.
