Listen to a product demonstration without looking at the script. Can you identify the model, the stated range and the unit? A voice can sound natural while leaving those details uncertain. For an international buyer, the quality of the narration depends on the information received, not only on how pleasant the voice sounds.
AWS announced an upgrade to the Polly Generative engine on October 20, describing improvements in naturalness and handling of complex content such as numbers and email addresses. Speech Synthesis Markup Language controls remain available. Those capabilities are useful production tools, but they do not establish that a particular supplier's narration has pronounced its product information correctly.
Separate smooth delivery from exact recognition
Mark the parts of the script that require precise recognition: model identifiers, dimensions, ranges, dates and contact details. A general introduction may sound convincing even when one of these fragments is unclear. Mixed letters and numbers deserve particular attention because reading the sequence as a word, an abbreviation or individual characters can produce different interpretations.
The right pronunciation depends on the identifier. Do not change the model itself to make the voice more comfortable. A Chinese manufacturer and its overseas editor should agree on how the official reference is spoken while keeping the written reference consistent with the product material. A buyer must still be able to match what they hear to the catalogue.
Ranges introduce another kind of ambiguity. A compact written separator may not communicate a range clearly when spoken. If the intended meaning is a lower and upper bound, make that relationship audible. If the symbol is part of the model name, do not turn it into a range simply because the resulting sentence sounds smoother. Establish the meaning before editing the sound.
Numbers and units should be reviewed as a phrase. A pause or scene change between them can make the relationship harder to follow, even when each element is pronounced correctly. Production rhythm matters, but it should not split the information the buyer needs to interpret the specification. Subtitles should reinforce the same meaning rather than quietly repair a misleading spoken version.
Pronunciation controls cannot fix an uncertain fact
Speech controls can alter delivery. They cannot decide which specification is correct. If the source omits a unit or the translation changes a maximum into an approximate value, choosing another voice does not solve the problem. Correct the approved wording first, then work on pronunciation. Do not hide a different product statement inside speech markup while leaving the visible script unchanged.
Review difficult fragments on their own, then put them back into the complete sentence. An isolated model number may be clear but become hard to distinguish when joined to surrounding words. A number can be audible while its role remains uncertain: is it a dimension, an order quantity or an operating condition? The sentence supplies that context.
For multilingual work, translation accuracy and spoken intelligibility need separate attention. As explained in deciding what should stay untranslated on a product page, identifiers and explanatory language serve different purposes. Narration adds a delivery decision, but it does not erase that distinction. Preserve the identifier while choosing a reading that the intended audience can recognise.
This is useful for Chinese export teams producing videos for distributors who did not participate in the original filming. The distributor may know the product category but not the factory's internal shorthand. A pronunciation familiar to the production team may therefore need an explicit explanation, without inventing a new name or changing the technical claim.
Check the finished film, not just the audio export
Ask someone who did not write the script to listen to a critical section and repeat the identifier, range or unit they heard. The purpose is not to assign a subjective voice-quality score. It is to detect a mismatch between the intended information and the information received. If the two differ, examine the wording and delivery before assuming that the listener lacked expertise.
Then compare narration, subtitles and visible product action in the final edit. A corrected spoken number can coexist with an older subtitle. A timing change can move an explanation away from the relevant shot. The buyer experiences the combined film, so acceptance of an isolated audio file does not establish acceptance of the complete message.
Keep the review proportionate. Ordinary descriptive sentences may need only a normal listen-through, while identifiers and conditions deserve close attention. The aim is not to make production laborious. It is to spend the team's attention where a small listening error changes the product being understood.
Better synthetic speech can reduce time spent polishing routine delivery. Use that gain to inspect the details that carry technical meaning rather than removing the listening stage. The deliverable is an understandable product explanation; a natural-sounding voice is one part of it.
