A team member sees an incident card in Microsoft Teams and replies, “Continue checking.” Another colleague later writes, “Resolved.” In a one-way notification integration, neither message is a command to the connected agent. The conversation can coordinate people without changing the state of the investigation. This distinction is important when an overseas marketing team and a Chinese supplier share responsibility for an inquiry website.

AWS's DevOps Agent change log lists the Microsoft Teams connection on October 16. The associated guide explicitly describes one-way notifications and says that the app does not respond to channel messages. A notification can therefore make an investigation visible where people work, but its presence should not be interpreted as evidence that the channel supports a conversational control loop.

Follow the investigation, not the appearance of a chatbot

The card's View Investigation button provides a route to the actual investigation. Replies below the card remain useful human discussion. Someone can accept responsibility, explain a local business impact or arrange the next update. None of those statements establishes that the agent received a request, executed a mitigation or verified that a buyer's submission path is working again.

This is not a reason to reject a one-way connection. A team that only needs to receive findings may prefer a notification surface to another inbox that must be checked manually. The design becomes confusing when users expect a reply to operate the remote system. That expectation should be settled during setup, before an incident creates pressure to act quickly.

If a separate bot is intended to read channel messages and initiate actions, that is a different integration with its own permissions and behavior. It should not inherit authority merely because an incident-notification app is already installed. Sending an update to a channel and changing a production service are different capabilities. A casual acknowledgement should not be converted silently into an instruction to modify a server or repeat an inquiry submission.

For an international team, the handover can identify the colleague following up and the time of the next update. Keep the investigation link beside that acknowledgement so the next shift can inspect the same findings. Check the relevant business path separately when recovery is claimed. Those distinctions help colleagues understand what “resolved” means without requiring everybody to become a cloud administrator.

Test the route a recipient will actually use

During a controlled setup check, have an intended recipient open a non-sensitive investigation from its notification card. Verify that the destination is the same investigation the sender meant to share and that the recipient has the access needed for the assigned role. This tests an information handover. It does not require generating a real outage or disabling an existing alert system.

Then demonstrate what a channel reply does and does not do. Explain that a reply such as “I am taking this” is a statement to colleagues, while any further investigative action must use the appropriate supported interface. A visible boundary is easier to remember than a vague instruction to “use the AI carefully,” especially for someone joining the channel after the original integration was installed.

When notifications are missing, avoid starting with a broad permission increase. AWS's guide separates registration, channel association and app installation; private or shared channels also require attention to the channel itself. Those are distinct points in the delivery path. Confirm the intended destination and installation state before assuming that the entire tenant needs wider access or that the agent has stopped running.

Recovery wording deserves the same care. An assigned colleague, a completed investigation and a restored inquiry journey are not interchangeable states. Our explanation of reconstructing an inquiry incident timeline shows why one healthy technical component does not prove that a buyer's request completed. A short chat message is an equally weak substitute for checking that outcome.

Companies not using AWS DevOps Agent do not need to migrate their operations to obtain this lesson. When evaluating any chat integration, ask the provider to demonstrate message delivery, reply handling and action execution separately. Purchase the capabilities the team actually needs. A channel can be a shared place to notice a problem without becoming the place where every operational action is authorized and performed.
