TikTok For Business described Catalog Image & Video Auto-Crawl in its July 28 Q3 Product Preview. When enabled, the feature can find eligible product images and videos on an advertiser's public landing pages. Built-in filters identify product-relevant assets and make them available for Smart+ Catalog Ads delivery. This can reduce manual uploads, but public visibility is not the same as advertising eligibility. A B2B exporter still owns the decision about rights, product status, market scope and factual validity.

Public access does not complete the rights check

A landing-page image may come from a supplier, agency, customer site, exhibition or stock library. Each asset can carry different territory, duration, channel and editing permissions. Permission to display an image on a corporate page may not cover paid advertising, derivative video or distribution in another market.

Attach the rights source, permitted channels, territories, expiry and accountable owner to every asset that an automated system may discover. If the evidence is incomplete, continuing to use an image for a narrow page purpose should not silently make it available to an advertising pool.

People, customer logos and factory scenes require particular care. A release may cover a specific campaign or date rather than unrestricted reuse. Keep the document or approval reference with the asset instead of relying on a filename or an informal memory.

Match assets to the current product version

Public sites often preserve discontinued models, earlier packaging, color examples or legacy accessories. A relevance filter can correctly associate an image with a product family while missing that the visual is no longer current. File metadata, alternative text and the surrounding product state need to agree.

Create a current asset set with a stable product or variant identifier, market, language, specification version and last-reviewed date. Historical material can remain useful for support or documentation, but it should live in an archive state that is clearly separated from currently offered configurations.

Do not let an image imply availability that the accompanying page does not establish. Where colors, accessories or packaging vary, the visible explanation and advertising eligibility record should state the boundary.

Give an automated creative pool explicit exclusions

At minimum, exclusions should cover unauthorized people, customer identifiers, test values, internal watermarks, expired promotions, stale prices, unavailable markets and claims that require specialist review. Platform filtering can estimate relevance; it cannot own the exporter's commercial and legal context.

Preview discovered assets before activation and retain an approved list with reviewer and date. A later page update, license expiry or product-status change should trigger a review of the advertising pool. Auto-crawl should not be assumed to understand why the business changed an image.

Separate asset discovery from permission to publish. Discovery can create a candidate record. A governed workflow then checks rights, facts and market suitability before the item becomes eligible for delivery.

What this means for Chinese exporters

A B2B independent site increasingly serves buyers, search engines, AI systems and advertising platforms at the same time. A public visual can move from a page component into a cross-channel input. Asset management must therefore answer who owns the material, what it depicts, and where and when it can be used.

Availability also matters. TikTok's preview includes market, account and objective notes for different features. Confirm the capability inside the authorized account and do not use abnormal methods to obtain access. Predicted creative performance or automated selection is not evidence of a business outcome.

The practical gain comes from making approved reuse faster while keeping an auditable exclusion path for everything else.

Treat the website crawler as another distribution consumer in the content inventory. The page owner should know which folders, templates and media records are eligible, which are informational only, and which must never leave their original context. This makes a later audit possible without reconstructing the decision from a live page that may already have changed.
