TikTok For Business updated its Smart+ guidance in August 2026. Manual and Smart+ experiences now sit in one campaign creation flow, where an advertiser can choose full automation, partial automation or manual operation. The upgraded structure also covers budget allocation, targeting and placement controls, multiple URLs and product sets, creative combinations and creative-level reporting. For a global B2B team, a consistent interface is convenient, but it makes configuration evidence more important. The team must be able to explain what the platform controlled and what a person decided at every layer.

Do not describe an entire campaign with one automation label

A campaign can use automatic budget allocation while an ad group uses manual audience controls and the ad layer permits automated creative combinations. Calling the result a “Smart+ campaign” does not preserve enough detail to diagnose performance or governance.

Create a control manifest across campaign, ad group and ad levels. For each layer, record the automation mode, enforced settings, range the system may adjust, change timestamp and accountable owner. Preserve a configuration snapshot when the mode changes. A later reviewer can then compare the actual operating states rather than infer them from the current interface.

The manifest should include availability as well. TikTok notes that the upgraded experience may not yet be available to every advertiser. Record the market, account and date where a feature was observed. Do not write a rollout announcement into a global operating procedure until the actual account confirms it.

Align shared budgets with real business units

TikTok explains that automatic campaign budgets allocate spending across ad groups. Bid adjustments apply across those groups, and a campaign using automatic budget allocation requires compatible budget and bid strategies.

That structure is appropriate only when the grouped objects are commercially comparable. Different countries, product families, sales owners or definitions of a qualified lead may not belong in one allocation pool. The platform can distribute budget inside a boundary; it cannot decide whether two markets should share the same commercial objective.

Early tests can combine similar markets with stable product and lead definitions. A specialist market, non-standard product or region with a different sales response should remain separate until the business can interpret the signal. Record the reason for grouping or separating each unit.

Register every URL and product set

In the upgraded structure, an ad can operate like an asset group with its own destination URL, product set and multiple creative assets. More combinations increase the risk of sending a buyer to an outdated page, wrong language or ineligible product.

Maintain a destination register with URL, language, product scope, market, page owner and last validation date. Before activation, test HTTP status, mobile rendering, form behavior and consistency between the ad proposition and the page. If a product or document becomes unavailable, the associated combinations need a controlled pause.

TikTok can recommend assets using website content and past performance. Public visibility is not the same as advertising permission. The team still owns the rights check, product status, claim accuracy and regional applicability of every selected asset.

Connect creative reporting to lead qualification

Creative-level reporting can group results by video, image, catalog and text identifiers. That helps a marketer see which combinations the system delivered. A B2B team should carry the same IDs into landing-page events and CRM records, then compare platform behavior with verified company identity, product need, target market and next sales stage.

A combination that produces many forms but lacks required qualification fields may indicate a message or page mismatch. The correct response is not automatically more budget. Inspect the promise, destination, form and follow-up route first.

What this means for Chinese exporters

The Smart+ update places automation on a spectrum rather than forcing a binary choice. Chinese exporters can choose controls according to data maturity, product risk and sales-cycle complexity.

New markets, custom products and long evaluation cycles usually need tighter human settings. Stable products with consistent pages and events can open selected controls gradually. Every increase in automation should have a recorded hypothesis, observation window and rollback condition.
