TopSearch appears in a search environment, so a B2B advertiser may treat it as another direct-response lead campaign. After a few days, the team compares cost per inquiry and stops the campaign if the number is high. That test ignores how TikTok has structured the product.
TikTok's September setup guidance places TopSearch under the Reach objective. Advertisers add keywords, audience, budget, schedule and creative, and TikTok recommends using TopSearch alongside Search Ads Campaigns. The product is designed first as a focused visibility layer around selected searches, not as a promise that every prominent appearance will produce an immediate form submission.
Buyer action depends on more than position. The keyword must represent relevant intent, the video must answer that search, and the destination must let the visitor continue evaluating. Measuring only the final submission makes it impossible to see which of those steps failed.
Start with terms that map to a purchasing task
Separate brand, category, model, application, material and problem terms. Record the expected buyer and destination for each group. “Packaging machine” and “automatic pouch packing machine for powder” sit at different stages of specification and should not inherit the same creative or success threshold.
TikTok advises advertisers to use enough relevant keywords, consider broad match and automated keywords where available, and keep creative aligned with search intent. An industrial account should not convert that guidance into a mechanical keyword quota. Every additional term needs a video and page capable of answering it. Irrelevant search exposure should lead to regrouping or removal, not automatically to more budget.
The opening seconds should identify the product, operating condition or decision difference behind the query. A generic company montage delays the answer. The landing page should continue with specifications, suitability limits, evidence and a useful next step. A model-specific video that sends a buyer to a generic homepage breaks the search journey even if placement is strong.
Connect visibility to the next observable action
Use layers. First, did priority terms receive the intended search visibility and viewing? Second, did users complete the video, visit the profile or click the site? Third, did they open technical material, submit a form or become qualified in sales? Preserve the same keyword-group and creative identifiers through the path.
Keep the role of TopSearch separate from broader Search Ads. A small group of commercially important terms may justify concentrated visibility during a launch or event, while regular search campaigns provide wider ongoing coverage. If the two campaign types use overlapping terms, reporting should identify that overlap rather than count every exposure as incremental.
Long industrial sales cycles mean an absence of immediate inquiries does not by itself settle the value question. It also does not justify indefinite spending. Define the test window, priority keywords, minimum downstream behavior and stop condition before launch. Compare results by intent group, not by one blended campaign average.
TopSearch earns a place when relevant buyers move from a relevant search into an explainable next step. A prominent position is an input to that path, not the final business outcome and not a substitute for qualified follow-up.
A small controlled test is more informative than a broad launch. Choose a limited set of high-intent terms and create separate specification-led, application-led and problem-led videos. Send each group to the matching product or guide page. Record search exposure, qualified viewing, landing-page depth and identifiable downstream actions using the same keyword-group and creative identifiers. That makes the path diagnosable without pretending every view is a sales opportunity.
Interpret the break point before changing spend. If relevant searches receive impressions but viewers do not continue, examine keyword meaning and the opening seconds of the video. If viewers click and leave immediately, inspect page-message continuity, mobile speed and missing decision evidence. If engaged visitors do not become qualified contacts, review the offer and follow-up route. More budget cannot repair a mismatch that has not been located.
Keep the reporting language equally disciplined. Visibility, engaged visit, content action and sales-qualified conversation should remain separate events. Calling all of them “leads” makes optimization impossible and overstates what a reach product produced. The campaign becomes useful when each stage has a definition, owner and next decision.
