China's Ministry of Commerce service-trade department published a notice on August 31 introducing a directory of well-known international service-trade and digital-trade exhibitions. The notice, dated August 21 and issued by the ministry's general office and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade general office, describes the directory as a reference for work. This article uses the thirty-day research window because the publication falls outside the latest seven days. The directory can support discovery, but it is not evidence that any particular exporter will benefit from attending or that a booking intermediary is authorized.

Start with the buyer's task

Before evaluating an event, define who the business needs to meet. A direct buyer, distributor, implementation partner and service subcontractor may attend the same exhibition for very different reasons. State the problem that the desired counterpart is trying to solve and the evidence your team can bring to that conversation.

Words such as international, digital or services do not establish audience fit. Review the organizer's published program, scope and participant roles. If those details are unavailable, retain the uncertainty instead of substituting event size or a salesperson's promise for buyer evidence.

Verify the booking path separately

Confirm the organizer, registration domain, contracting entity, payment recipient, cancellation terms and requested information through the event's official channels. A third party may offer travel, construction or booking assistance, but those services should have their own defined scope.

Directory inclusion and intermediary authorization are separate questions. A copied logo or stamped image should not become the basis for payment. Requests to pay an individual, avoid a formal contract or accept a guaranteed commercial outcome deserve human review before any commitment is made.

Build a comparable event-fit card

For each candidate, record market, buyer role, service category, language needs, demonstration material, meeting format and total cost. Cost includes more than floor space: travel, stand preparation, interpretation, content production and follow-up capacity all consume resources.

Use the same fields across candidates. An event with a narrow but relevant audience may be more appropriate than a large event with unclear procurement intent. The purpose of the card is not to manufacture a precise score. It is to expose which assumptions need checking before the business commits time and money.

What this means for Chinese exporters

Manufacturers may offer design, installation guidance, maintenance, software or training alongside physical products. A service-trade exhibition is relevant only if those services can be explained and delivered as a coherent offer. Repackaging a general product catalog does not resolve that question.

For digital and growth-service businesses, potential buyers will want to understand prerequisites, process, data access and acceptance criteria. The preparation should support a specific procurement discussion. A broad company presentation may introduce the business, but it should not be the only evidence available when a buyer asks how the work would actually proceed.

Action checklist

Decide how the event will be reviewed before attending

A useful review looks at completed target meetings, clarity of requirements, mutually agreed next steps and the effort required to follow through. Define those fields before the event so that representatives know which questions to ask. Counting business cards or booth visitors alone does not reveal whether the team found a suitable buyer.

Contact collection also requires care. Attendance does not automatically grant unlimited permission for later marketing. Use personal information under the applicable rules and the person's reasonable expectations. For relationships that remain exploratory, record the next agreed contact rather than inventing an expected transaction.

Treat the directory as a starting point

Dates, venues and registration status should still be checked with each organizer. This article does not recommend individual events that have not been independently evaluated, and it does not claim official participation or partnership for Koala Global.

The durable asset is a repeatable selection method: explain why the event fits, what the team must prepare and how the outcome will be reviewed. Separating channel discovery, verification, budget approval and follow-up turns attendance into a manageable market-learning activity rather than a decision driven by an impressive event label.
